A Message from Kevin
Writing is an art. It doesn’t matter if you are writing a letter, a short story, or a novel, writing is an artform. The greatest task involves taking a great idea and turning it into a great thing to read. As this artform morphs from one stage to another, it is easy to look back at your earliest writings and see stick figure drawings. I know I do.
I watched a TedTalk video with Elizabeth Gilbert (“Eat, Pray, Love”) on creativity. She said that almost daily, someone asks her if she is worried that the best thing she will ever write, has already been written. I tend to think the opposite. I am worried that as I develop as a writer that I will look back at my earlier books as stick figure cave paintings.
Whatever your art, keep painting, keep writing, keep sculpting, keep singing, keep playing. Your first attempt could become a Mona Lisa and your last could be The Starry Night.
